If I could only choose one

If you had to pick one aspect of teaching as being the most important to you what would you choose?  I would greatly appreciate your feedback for a future blog post by completing this one question survey created by Pollmo.  Here's the link:  The most important aspect of teaching is   I tried to embed but no luck. I'm new and this is the first time that I have used Pollmo.  If you choose other and have time to leave a comment as to what "other" is to you it would be greatly appreciated!    Check out Pollmo, it is EEEEasy, no sign up, no email.  Hope everyone had a great first day back to school.  Looking forward to learning and growing in 2011.   Thanks for reading (:

Now WHERE did I put that paper?

Or where did I leave my flash drive?????   Thanks to Steven Anderson for tweeting this link to DROPBOX!!  http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/3-reasons-why-students-should-be-using-dropbox-as-a-study-tool/  an article by Angelina (2009)  which explain the benefits of using dropbox. The program allows you to access your documents from any computer because they are stored on the web.  Benefits of dropbox over Googledocs is that you do not need to have an email acount to use the service.  Dropbox will also allow two people to work on the same file simultaneously, saving both copies so there doesn't have to be a long chain of emails back and forth. Check out the article for other reasons to use Dropbox.

Resolution # 1 & Seasons of Love

Resolution number one is to keep working on having more self confidence as  teacher.  I say keep working because I have been working on this since I started but no matter how hard I work or how much I learn or how much I improve I still have moments of feeling extremely inadequate. (We're talking 15 years here how sad is that)  If you are a teacher who has self doubts you are not alone.   I plan to do this by continuing to seek National Board Certification and to continue to improve my ability to use assessment to inform my instruction and to be sure that what I teach is concretely accessible and connected to real life.  I also want to integrate more technology. Perhaps our self doubts keep us from becoming complacent and in that way serve a positive purpose.
 From, Rent: "Seasons of Love":

Five hundred twenty-five thousand

Six hundred minutes
How do you measure, measure a year?
In daylights, in sunsets, in midnights
In cups of coffee
In inches, in miles, in laughter, in strife.
In five hundred twenty-five thousand
Six hundred minutes
How do you measure
A year in the life?
How about love?
How about love?
How about love? Measure in love...

This holds true in the classroom as well as our personal relationships.  Measure you worth by the love you bring to your profession, your students, your co-workers.

Happy New Year
